Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to eat wonderful Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, Mexican food can be loaded with calories and high in fat. This Cinco de Mayo and all year round you can make a few easy changes to enjoy all the flavor Mexican food has to offer.

  • Instead of flour tortillas, ask for corn tortillas.
  • Skip the basket of nacho chips and have tortilla soup instead.
  • Request black or red beans in place of refried beans.
  • Use salsa, pico de gallo, cilantro and jalapeno peppers, instead of full fat sour cream and cheese.
  • Choose meat and vegetable fajitas instead of loaded burritos or quesadillas.
  • Try a taco or fajita salad (don’t eat the shell and ask for low fat sour cream).
