How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

November 6th, 2007

Do you find that you and your family tend to eat more during the holidays?

Well don’t worry because you are not alone. The Health e-Lunch Nutritionist is here to answer your questions and provide you with suggestions to keep your family on track during these tempting months. Soon you will be attending family gatherings, holiday parties, and be offered plenty of goodies at work. Here are my suggestions on how to avoid extra calories and expanding waistline during the holidays:

1. Before you attend holiday parties try to eat a small balanced meal so you will not be as hungry.

2. Do not stand near the buffet line at parties. You will be just tempted to keep picking at the food because of convenience

3. Try to exercise with your family or friends at least 30 minutes a day to burn off those extra calories you may have eaten.

New Fun Exercises to try with the family:

  • Ice Skating
  • Ice Hockey
  • Skiing
  • Tubing

4. Avoid watching too much television. Remember if you do, so will your children.

5. To avoid over eating at work try to pack healthy snacks and keep them at your desk.

6. Take time to enjoy meals with your family. Most people eat healthier when it is a home cooked meal.

7. Get plenty of rest and remember there is always tomorrow
